Madekwe, a mixed race British-Nigerian child was born into an ethnically diverse family from South London. She's English but her father is Nigerian. She went to The Brit School when she was 14 years old. In London, she studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art where her acting certificate was obtained.
