Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the United States. She has worked as an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips which include commentary on the depictions of women in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource dedicated to education, which examines women's roles in pop culture narratives It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. She also serves as the director of operations. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes about women and how they are depicted in pop culture. In addition she aims to create awareness about online harassment targeted at women, and other those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Alongside being a popular public speaker she has made speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. While a student at university she became fascinated by the issue of gender equality and the rights of women from a young age. A woman with ambitions to start a web-series examining the gender-based representation in video games, she was targeted by an internet-based campaign. But the assault did have been a hindrance, rather it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist critic of media. Many awards have been presented to her in recognition of her contributions to the field she made. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit examines how women are depicted in contemporary pop culture.
